An overview of stability challenges for power‐electronic‐dominated power systems: The grid‐forming approach

Inverter-based generators (IBGs) are becoming popular in modern power systems. When the penetration of IBGs is increasing systems, new stability, protection, and monitoring challenges introduced grid. Grid-forming (GFM) control converters seen as a promising solution for future grids to overcome particular stability challenges. Here, technical GFM-based reviewed from point view TSOs academic research. The properties different GFM methods studied single grid-tied IBG using IEEE 9-bus test system. Simulation results provided by PSCAD-EMT simulation software.
